Pros

Junior level staffers keep this place running. Great to make friends & connections if you're a younger employee in LA/DC. Awesome travel opportunities (but not for everyone!). Pay is decent for a nonprofit think tank.

Cons

Executives are out of touch. Senior managers are devoted to the C-Suite rather than to the success and growth of their own teams. Managers take credit for the work of junior staffers. It's all about power and visibility at Milken- and if you don't have it, most colleagues won't give you the time of day. Mentorship is nonexistent and there is very little room for growth, even though you may be tricked to believe there is. Overall, style is valued over substance.

MI is a "What the Top 3 People Think" Tank

Pros

Most junior and mid-level staff is highly qualified and passionate. Excellent travel opportunities. Dependent on Center leadership, good work/life balance. Excellent fodder for the dinner table on how mediocre white men are promoted in a patriarchal system. First-hand observances of how capitalism fosters inequity. You will understand inside jokes on shows like Succession and Billions.

Cons

Regardless of the facts or data, leadership at MI truly excels in sticking to whatever narrative they chose and believe in. Nepotism is rampant. Toxic people are rewarded based on looks and presentation, and rise to the top of the organization. New and creative thinking is disregarded. The ideas coming out of this "think tank" are old.
