A Mixed Bag with Significant Challenges

Pros

Good people Globally remote workforce

Cons

Working at Mindbody had its highs and lows. Initially, the environment seemed promising, and there are undoubtedly talented, hardworking individuals who genuinely care about their work and colleagues. However, beneath the surface, there are structural and cultural issues that make it difficult to recommend the company without reservations. The most significant concern lies with executive leadership. Decision-making often feels out of touch with the realities faced by employees, and there’s a noticeable lack of genuine investment in people. Employees are treated more like numbers than valued contributors, with the primary focus on productivity metrics. Unfortunately, this has created a culture where underperformance, even temporary or circumstantial, is met with swift action rather than support or development. The dysfunction isn’t isolated to one area; it spans across multiple departments, leading to misaligned priorities and frequent frustrations. While the company has a set of core values, these often feel more like a marketing tool than a guiding principle for leadership behavior. Mindbody does have potential and some people strive to make positive changes, however, until leadership demonstrates stronger commitment to fostering a supportive, people-first culture, candidates should approach opportunities here with caution and a clear understanding of the challenges they might face.

Times are tough, but do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for employment

Pros

Work from home. Team used to be fun and supportive but they are mostly gone after October layoffs.

Cons

Company has gone downhill since acquired by Vista Private Equity in a rushed deal that the former CEO is now (publicly) under investigation for. They’ve been cutting costs like crazy ever since and it has really sucked the lifeblood out of the culture. The product is a wreck and customers struggle to get support. Efforts to modernize have been largely unsuccessful, reflected in the change in essentially the entire leadership team in late 2022. New leadership team is cliquey, nepotistic, and ineffective. This company cannot execute ANYTHING to do with people(HR) without totally screwing it up. Unlimited PTO just hurts employees, especially women who would like to extend their maternity leave past the despicable parental leave policy. This feels like a sunk ship.
