Pros

This is much like a community of people that work together, sharing similar ways of looking at how people should be treated in a workplace. There is a sense of trust amongst most people and that really helps when we are working in teams. Everyone seems genuinely available to help you, and I don't feel people are trying to hide information from each other. Also, there are no evaluations which I think helps a lot with the trust and information sharing. It's difficult to describe how a self-management company works, but there are no people managers, we need to own and plan our own development, request feedback from our colleagues and understand the value we are adding. Could not think of a better place to be working right now.

Cons

If you do not enjoy autonomy and being responsible for your actions and decisions, this place can be though... If you see something you don't think it's right, you need to take action to change it as noone is gonna do that for you.

Pros

Good place to work. You feel comfortable, relaxed environment, no micro management. It is a good place to change your career, management easily change you to another project/client/role if you want. You have a lot of freedom to learn, work in open source projects, go to conferences or organize your own, start your own project and propose to management. Interesting self-management approach, although not perfect, it is impressive seeing a company really trying to do something different in this matter. A lot of decisions are made organically with no need to be approved by a "boss". More companies should try to follow the same approach.

Cons

Unfortunately the founders don't seem to value good software developers. Probably they think that we are just another developer and if we leave they just get easily another one that does the job. You can get easily a much better salary in other companies in Porto. But they say they offer other things that the rest of the companies don't. I know that it is polite to say money is the least important thing, but in the end many are leaving and others thinking about it probably because of that. They really enjoy working at Mindera, but yeah they feel undervalued and salary is also important. I know that every company wants to reduce costs, but it is disappointing seeing a company that says they care about people and throws a bunch of cool speeches, and after awhile you realize apparently only profit matters. As you see the company growing, many perks/benefits seems to decay - bonus, food. Creating a "Human Resources" department, or "Office Admins" department was a mistake. There a lot of important decisions that are being taken by these folks, and a lot of information that only they know. It seems to be a matter of time until we just forget about self-management and start having bosses/managers in every team.
