Pros

- great, quality products sold and used in services - opportunity for growth in the company

Cons

- sometimes you get no lunch break and you have to plan out a bathroom break and end up missing phone calls or making clients wait to check in/out. not legal in my state at all, but we're just encouraged to snack. - managers often work from home which leaves desk staff in charge of the salon, often times alone for 6-8 hours. you'll often spend the day being pulled in several directions by clients, techs and telephones due to understaffing. managers not being staffed on the desk often means fewer opportunity for training and coaching, which leads to inconsistencies in business. - Clients are allowed to verbally abuse/harass staff, thus robbing them of dignity and time (and time is money) . No real HR representation or policy on how to handle disruptive/abusive clients. - poor communication throughout company which leads to inconsistencies in services - you could often be asked to work on days off, particularly days requested off far in advance which is not fair - I applied for/ was granted full time employment which is legally 35 hours a week but i often only work just below 30 hours - gossipy environment, favoritism in the workplace

Pros

Hourly plus tips, is good when the season is slow.

Cons

Management. Poorly run. Clients over employees. Push for no cash and in the beauty industry cash tips are everything!

Pros

I have been working full time as a Studio Director in Boston for almost 2 years. After reading a lot of the reviews for the company, I felt I needed to set the record straight. This job, just like any position here or anywhere, is exactly what you make of it. I have hustled and worked hard, and it has paid off. They have given me 2 generous pay increases in less than 2 years, as well as great and fair bonus potential. Is this company perfect? No. But I challenge anyone reading this to find the company that is, so we can all work there. What this company does have are many many kind, smart, and motivated people who want to grow and change this industry. Personally, that's something I want to be a part of, despite the hiccups. If you work hard for your technicians, they will work hard for you. This job is not easy, and if you are expecting to come, sit, and collect a paycheck, then you may find yourself relating to the negative reviews. A lot is expected of you, and you are counted on to uphold the high standards this company was built on. Everything here is earned, and if you aren't ready to work hard and take charge of yourself and your career, then you may feel "over worked" or "taken advantage of". Even my worst days have come with successes and support, from my team of technicians and Experience Associates, to my superiors and I have never felt micro-managed! I personally am very excited to be a part of the future here.

Cons

As a Studio Director, sometimes your work/life balance can be difficult. It takes a lot of work to get the proper team in to place, and get them feeling empowered and confident when you are not present. Since it's the service industry, the hours can be daunting. Especially working a lot of "bank holidays" that most people have off. Clients can be trying and very demanding, and it takes confidence and a tough skin to be here. Communication throughout the company is steadily improving, but has been more of a weakness.
