Pros

The boss is flexible when it comes to one-day work-from-home scenarios (contractor visits, car repairs, overnight sickness, etc.) The colleagues are super nice, and each department is equally as aware of the company-wide problems. There's a lot of flexibility and autonomy to be creative with your work; though it's often unnoticed or unappreciated.

Cons

In the marketing department, there's no room for growth or opportunity past your initial job offer. (Raises and bonuses are super rare, too, so negotiate higher to start.) There's not even an established hierarchy within the team, even if your resume differs greatly. Because of this, marketing doesn't have a buffer between them and the president of the company, which can be stressful. It can include late-night and weekend emails, as well as inquiries about your schedule (how long your lunch breaks are, what time do you come in and leave). There's also a toxic ideal that if you overwork yourself, you'll get promoted or receive more money. There's a massive lack of separation between the product/company and a personal connection from the president. This can lead to dictatorial decision-making and subtle, belittling reminders that he is above you. His priorities are your priorities, and if you go off course, he will remind you repeatedly that he owns the company. The subtlety continues in regards to sexism. Marketing is more often than not a team of young women who are just starting their careers. They're unofficially seen as glorified secretaries, and any initiative taken is either unaccepted or taken credit for. In my experience, any project discussions from the female marketing team is seen as "pushback" and "a lack of willingness to try." We've been asked to take meeting notes, replace the president in discovery calls (because his time is more valuable), perform cold-calling for the salesmen, and other duties outside of our job description. We've compromised our ethics after being asked to copy what our competitors are doing and one-up them. The company buys email lists from other companies going out of business. We've asked multiple times to work remote and been denied, because "once one person does it, everyone will want to do it." However, all male colleagues are either only working remote or balancing work-from-home and in-office schedules. Nepotism runs deep. Family, friends, and former interns/employees/software users will get first choice over new applicants, even if they're under-qualified. This company will outsource, too, as long as it's cheaper. The quality comes as a second thought, so does diversity.

Pros

The company has over 100 employees but still feels like a family atmosphere. The expectations of employees are high, but if you are a good performer the company gives you a lot of flexibility and trust. It's a collegiate atmosphere. Management is very analytical, and even-keeled. I work in the marketing team and we are given a lot of flexibility to try new things and rewarded with raises if our work helped grow the company. Most of the employees in the US office are female and the company is great about giving flexibility. As long as you perform at a high level, you are given a lot of freedom. You have a lot of access to the owners of the company. They have an open-door policy and spend time with both the junior and senior employees. The staff are very welcoming and friendly, and there is relatively little turnover within the company.

Cons

The company spends a lot of time analyzing new hires and the result is that you have a lot of great employees who tend to be highly motivated and perform at a high level. If you are not a high-level performer, it's not a place you can hide. You are going to get judged against people who perform at a high level, The company is very open that it wants "go getters' in every job and there is definitely an expectation of excellence from management and fellow employees. It's not a place where you can hide if you are not enthusiastic about the mission. That's a good thing to me, but it's not for everybody.
