Not a healthy environment

Pros

The work life balance is good. The mission can be very rewarding. The work environment in some locations and in some sections can be very good. Management is not overly critical of performance - the positive aspect of low accountability.

Cons

Senior management tolerates an amazing amount of nepotism and cronyism, and ignores the completely toxic environment that this creates. Merit and effectiveness are ignored in decisions of promotion or pay increases. Low accountability for bad job performance, which leads to an unfair balance of underperforming employees doing very little and overburdened employees carrying the entire load. This all contributes to a terrible cycle of the loss of good employees, after they are exhausted, and the retention of flawed employees.

Pros

Get to milk the taxpayers, sweep problems under the rug, fire the lowest man on the totem pole for management decisions/corruption.

Cons

Come up with an idea to improve a process and your manager will tell you it's unworkable. Later you find he/she recieved kudos for the great idea.

Pros

A solid group of people to work with. Actual accrued vacation. Decent benefits, though they are expensive. There's an opportunity to work on interesting projects. The ability to work 4, 10-hour days is nice.

Cons

A callback to the office for all employees, even those hired as fully remote, has the place in turmoil. Communication from HR and senior management is nonexistent, leaving people in limbo for an extended period. Too many long-term employees have become complacent, making it difficult to get work done.
