Pros

Everyone has the ability to have an effect on the future of the company, the product, and the success of the organization. Opinions and suggestions are looked for at every turn and you can really have an opportunity to think outside the box. The Development team management is very responsive to the needs of the team and eager to help. They require a lot, but give a lot in return. It has been good to see the record growth of the company and the management expects another record growth year. I love the flexibility of being able to work from home a bit. That shows a trust in the employee. The management created a revenue bonus plan for all employees starting in 2015 which is pretty significant along with some encouraging compensation increases which was good to hear. Watched one of the developers get promoted, as well as one of the sales reps. You don't see that a lot at other companies, where you can come in at entry level and really actually see growth in your career. It is a big deal here, to invest in people and see them grow. They allow you to try out new things, and problem solvers are encouraged to speak up and rewarded for it. The vacation plan is pretty good, in fact we got an increase in vacation in 2015. Good benefits, better than the market I would say. Company is very supportive of its employees and even have helped people when they had "challenges" in the home in various situations over and above what you'd see elsewhere. They really care about the people and their families. Been good to hear that in the first month of the year we have picked up a bunch of new clients.

Cons

Can be scary if you are a low performing employee, because it will be obvious very quickly and you will be found out. The company really looks for everyone to be high performing, and have high ability so we've seen some turnover from people who couldn't keep up. The expectation is that everyone will contribute, so for people who prefer to work in silence and without team engagement it can be difficult. Given the increase in new customers and revenue recently the pressure is up a bit to drive new function quickly into the market. I guess it is hard to complain because the alternative (not growing) would be bad. Being in a growth space (mobile) the market is shifting so you have to invest a lot personally to make sure you're keeping up. You really have to be dynamic to work here, if you are interested in just doing one thing and not learning new things it can be a challenge to grow. We've seen that in some that left.

Pros

A genuinely fun place to work - with a casual working environment, and a relatively close-knit community. It's a small company, so you'll get to know everyone - for better or worse. Some fun company events, and the development team is a lot lower-pressure than some other dev teams I've worked with.

Cons

Compensation is a pretty big issue. MobileSmith pays around 70% of the market rate for comparable dev positions within the Triangle area - and the additional "perks" aren't really worth it. Small 401K match, TriNet administered healthcare, etc. A company loyalty program that basically amounts to a popularity contest. Developers are contacted weekly by recruiters, and it gets very tempting to jump ship. The biggest problem is the complete lack of future growth/potential. As a public company, the quarterly reports are posted on the website - and they aren't comforting to employees that are looking to make a long-term career in the company, since there are constant issues of going concern regarding the low revenues and high debt levels. Overall, I'd say that this would be a good choice for 6 months to a year after graduating from a computer science program, but that it wouldn't be a good bet for anything more than an entry level gig. Investing the time in learning the proprietary systems / software doesn't seem worth it, because I can't see a long term future in the company's products or services.

Pros

A dynamic start-up with a great potential; a talented team; comfortable work environment.

Cons

As with any start-up, a degree of chaos, but nothing that cannot be fixed.
