Pros

Mobilesmith is on the cutting edge of some exciting technologies. Good market penetration for healthcare vertical. Friendly atmosphere.

Cons

Susceptible to the same problems as many companies. Lots of effort put into planning and estimating, only to have everything disregarded in favor of deadlines agreed to by upper management and clients.

Pros

Solid team environment. The company is setup in teams (as usual) dev, marketing, customer support, sales etc.. and each team has its own unique personality. Teams are pretty tight with each other and the atmosphere is pretty fun. Interested in investing in employees and growth. The company is into promoting internally. They look for people who are showing signs of growth and try and facilitate that. Pretty good benefits. They do 401K match, some work from home capability, pretty decent vacation package. Fairly seasoned management team. Sales organization hires young, aggressive people and then they teach them and promote them into senior roles, development group is constantly growing and very little turnover, COO is a solid leader who has a background that suits the entereprenurial aspects of the company and runs the day to day and the CEO is pretty encouraging. Company seems to be growing pretty well and adding new customers. Announcements are sent out each time there is a new customer.

Cons

They have some management issues for some of the "younger" management team members learning how to motivate their people and let people do their thing but they seem to be working on that. "Startup" environment comes with some of the standard stresses that you see during times when there is a big push or a customer that requires something from them. Given the relatively small nature of the company there can be stresses placed on individuals and performance is expected and demanded to be at a high level. Sometimes the days can get long. Budgets are a bit tight so the purse strings are tight as well.

Great Company but Fundamental Issues Exist

Pros

The company atmosphere is fantastic concerning motivation, incentives, and team building. You can genuinely tell that people want this company to succeed. Much of the management roles are filled with people that want to succeed and I always appreciated the effort that they put into their jobs. MobileSmith is not like a majority of companies out there (which is good and bad) because you aren't a number but a few bad eggs ruin everything in a 30 person company. It could be a small business mentality but I liked most of it a lot. Getting to know my colleagues made me feel welcomed immediately and made me want to do better as an employee. The rest, well, read on.

Cons

Some people in the company could do no wrong. It was infuriating the amount of favoritism that exists. Firing people was seen as a joke on many occasions and it lowered morale dramatically. The people that want to make the company a better place are constantly picking up the slack of certain department heads. Lower management does their best to pick up the slack but many leave because they can't deal with these department heads. Everyone knows there are issues but it gets written off instead of corrected. They instead verbally insult the ones that get fired to whomever is in earshot and demean any attempts to make the situations better because they think they know all and want everyone else to know it as well. The employee churn outside of dev is ridiculous because of these managers. The CEO is not on site which isn't a bad thing but you can tell when he is because the offending parties shape up a bit more. The COO acts as the leader day to day and he isn't a bad manager, he is just so unconfrontational that everyone knows how to get over on him. So, when he does try to correct something; they are full of excuses and get away with it.
