Heavily Micromanages, Underpaid

Pros

Corporate runs like a well-oiled machine and they seem to be really invested in promoting their brand. They have "ok" benefits. Only recently implemented a 401k plan.

Cons

Monarch micromanages everything. Managers are glorified Leasing Agents, Assistant Managers serve virtually no purpose, and Leasing Agents are glorified receptionists who show apartments. If you are coming from a different multifamily company- keep it moving. You will NOT be happy here. I feel more like a foot soldier than anything. If you are looking to add accomplishments to your resume, you will likely be unable to do that while at Monarch. Also, the company is out town so you likely won't make many valuable connections. Pretty much everything is out of your control including who you hire, how much you want to pay them, and your weekend schedule (yes, all property managers are required to work weekends and your day off HAS to be Thursday). You will have very little say in your budget and selecting your vendors. Often you will find contractors on your property and nobody told you about it. You are essentially given a children's fake steering wheel to play with while numerous other people have their hands on the wheel, and yes, this does create absolute mayhem. You also have very little say in who you reprimand or fire. I'm talking 3 verbal warnings, 3 write-up's, and then they will probably transfer the person. This again gives the perception that the manager has no control to all of their employees (and the perception isn't wrong). They underpay management and overpay entry level positions. Their bonus structure is ok but their commission structure is abysmal. They are very outdated in a lot of their ways. For example, you have to physically punch in and out on a time clock (what happened to ADP?), you have to go to three different websites to see your benefits, PTO/pay info, and the employee handbook. They do not have Adobe so you aren't able to do much in the way of PDF's, all their Monarch created handouts look like they were made on Windows 94, we only use black and white printers, we still use receipt books, etc. If you are coming from a different company you will not be happy at Monarch.

Pros

There are so many pros to working for this company but just to give a few here they are: 1) They provide excellent training and give you all the tools you need to be successful at your job 2) The properties are great properties ran by great people so it makes your selling efforts that much easier when the prospect walks through the door. 3) They treat their employees like human beings by rewarding them for their hard work and showing appreciation by giving them company outings and other culture building activities.

Cons

None that I can think of
