Greedy Upper Administration Makes Teaching Here More Difficult Than It Should Be

Pros

Interesting, open-minded colleagues, most students are good, kind people (though many aren't adequately prepared for college), beautiful campus surrounded by mountains (don't miss the naturally heated duck pond!)

Cons

Low pay is not commensurate with cost of living in BZN; upper administration (president, provost, and minions) not particularly interested in good teaching or scholarship unless it brings some form of status with it

Pay is so low most employees qualify as for food stamps Cost of living vs. pay incredibly imbalanced Losing best researchers to lesser schools over pay Sidewalks incredibly hazardous in winter Most employees seem to be worn down by unappreciation from university

Pros

Great benefits for being an RA, nice to live on campus and have room/board taken care of. Great to be a part of a community in the RA role.

Cons

Poor management, Residence Life management would say one thing but act much differently. Poor life balance, expected to be an RA 24/7, and sometimes not allowed to be yourself. The job takes up a lot more mental space because you live in the residence halls and only get 10 chances a semester to escape for a night.
