Pros
Giving back to the underserved. Montefiore is in the Bronx, so you are helping people that would often normally not have access to high quality care. Some state of the art facilities. Certain departments have a ton of funding and therefore have the newest technologies and best of the best. Great senior management team. The C-level execs are top notch. Below that, also some really bright people. Strong staff development curriculum. The institution really focuses on developing its employees and retaining them as staff members increase their skill sets and learn to be more skilled clinicians and staff. Great benefits.
Cons
Politics are rampant. There are stories all over the place about people that got promoted inappropriately due to family connections, extramarital affairs, etc. It's really horrifying to those of us who work hard. There have also been innumerable instances in which people have been fired unfairly because someone powerful did not like him/her, but the person was a good worker and employee. This was horrible for employee morale and damaged the work culture tremendously. Similarly, favoritism in promotions. Pay is better elsewhere (compared to other academic medical centers in the NY area). Neighborhood is not so good (going out to lunch is not so much an option, unless you want to take a risk).
