Pros

- Only good as a last resort if you’re desperate for finance experience and you need to get your foot in the door.

Cons

- More than half of staff has been turned over during the past year - Awful, inexperienced managing directors who lack any sort of self-awareness - Indifferent CEO/head of Canada that are pretty much in retirement mode - An internal survey was completed by staff showing significant dissatisfaction and no actions were taken to address this - DBRS is basically a quasi-government organization since it has government salary /bureaucracy without the benefits and job security you would see in the government - The firm’s reputation has really deteriorated over the past few years

Morningstar DBRS Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. It’s unfortunate that you have a negative view of our Canadian operations. I’d like to point out a few things which you may not be aware of. First, our voluntary attrition in Canada last year was 16%, which is equal to the average across all companies in Canada. Over the last 4 months, that number has dropped to 11%. Second, we recently presented the results of the employee engagement survey at our regional town halls and hope you attended. You would have learned that several actions are already underway, and more are in the works as we look to improve employee engagement. Third, we continue to attract and retain people with competitive market based salaries based on salary survey data and research through our recruiting efforts. We believe DBRS is stronger now than any other time in our history and hope you will recognize that over time.

Pros

There are really great analysts and hard working people at DBRS, and those at the level of managing directors are typically good - although there are a lot that really should not be in the positions they are in because they take away from the reputation and skill the really great ones portray.

Cons

Upper Management. They are completely out of touch and out of tune with employees and make decisions in their own or the owners best interests without considering the employees at all. They are losing a lot of really excellent employees in Toronto especially, where the company was founded, because those who are running the show now (most from New York) are forgetting where the true heart and soul (and at one time, loyalty) of the company started and exists.

Pros

- work- life balance

Cons

- Too much politics, to a point that it effects work efficiency in some teams - Capital market brand, government office experience (slow in work and progress) - Salary is not competitive compared to some other financial institutions - Performance evaluation process looks transparent on paper, but it is not
