Pros

Interesting place to get some hand on of the 'corporation programming model' You do something what realy could matter - those subscribers / base radio are used 24/7/365 by police / fire / emergency etc. Good place to work with various people, Sallary is paid, some benefits still exist, Company is still afloat despite all the 'crisis stuff'

Cons

Politics, Old technology but it may depend on the place, Very traditional process - yet some changes shows there as well, Company is getting smaller every year. Not a place to work on innovative stuff

Good, but certainly could be better

Pros

- Stable job (at least for now) - Low stress envirnonment for an engineer (not so much for a manager) - Flexible working hours and work / life balance - Own initiatives are welcome, although it's tough to get it thru - Pretty good social package

Cons

- Good, productive engineers should be acknowledged more - the discrepancy between employees' skills is huge, much less than their salaries - Historically underinvested tools - process of debugging is lengthy and painful (things are heading in right direction though) - Lots of legacy code, old technologies used - Perhaps not for very ambitious people
