Pros

*Resume builder *Working here will give you a new appreciation for former jobs *There are some wonderful people to work with

Cons

How is Movement making so much profit you ask? By hurting the consumer (highest rates in the entire industry) + illegally paying realtors, but trying to hide these payments through "so called advertising", through donations to realtor charities, through expenses + worst employee pay in the industry. So many borrowers have been hurt by greedy Movement LOs that pressure them into high fees and rates, and it starts with the Realtor steering that customer to Movement LOs. This attitude starts at the top with the Movement CEO, who cares only about his own personal publicity, not his employees or customers. This company is the reason the CFPB was created and it should be investigated immediately for illegal practices, that harm borrowers. I don't understand how they haven't audited us yet. Also, hiring of people not based ok skill set but rather on how likely they are to "drink the koolaid" I'm tired of working with people who are hired because they attend a certain church or have zero qualifications so they can be paid laughable wages. It is impossible to get ahead unless you make it into "the club". I am actively seeking other employment as I don't want to be around when the hammer is dropped. I feel more and more like I'm a part of a cult everyday. If they put as much effort into their employees/policies/procedures as they do in the t-shirts they make maybe we would be better off. Also, I'm a Christian but I don't need it shoved down my throat at work all the time. There's a time & place. Employees worth is dependent on how much koolaid you can suck down NOT how well you actually perform your work. Don't be "different" they do not like different. Be sure to fall in line with the Christian beliefs or you're outta here! Diversity is NOT one of the qualities exemplified here. Although fakeness is not a word, it is here! CEO/Ownership are celebrated and paraded "Gods" Parking

Return to office for culture?

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Great direct manager, great direct reports. Supportive operations staff.

Cons

After 6 years WFH, announcement today that our campus is return to office for employees within 50 miles. In CLT traffic that will be up to two hours for some employees. Very disappointing after years of no pay increases, lowering of 401k matches, etc. The majority of employees are struggling to make ends meet and are not interested in free food trucks M-Th when having to drive to the office, re purchase work attire, gas, child care, pet care etc. after years of working from home 5-7 days/week working record volumes of loans. Moral/culture has disappeared for many reasons, commuting to the office is not one of them.

Pros

great benefits, 401k 100% matching up to 6%, inexpensive healthcare compared to other companies, free break fast on Fridays, great place to get your foot in the door in corporate America if you have no degree or prior work experience. Casual dress is convenient, and it is nice to be allowed to dress up for Halloween. They do amazing things to give back to the community.

Cons

Growth opportunity is minimal despite what they say in the interview. Upon asking for more opportunities to learn and grow in order to eventually advance and earn a promotion, I was told that I would not be eligible to even be considered for a promotion for 4-5 years, despite having 1 year of experience under my belt. I would arrive to work between 7:30 and 7:45 every day, one day, after I'd been employed for 8 months I clocked out at 4:59. It was an accident, I clicked the button too early. I was pulled aside the following day and given a warning that clocking out before 5 was grounds for termination. The "loving and valuing" core belief feels artificial. Movement does great and amazing works in the community, but the employees in the Ops Center feel micromanaged, and under valued. Some team leads will time your bathroom breaks if they feel you've gotten up too many times. If a loan isn't processed by the deadline, $25 will be subtracted from your bonus pay even if the circumstances were entirely out of your control. You are expected to bend over backwards for every LO you encounter, no matter how rude or condescending they are (exception--if they cuss you out or use racial slurs, you are allowed to tell your team lead). They have a "concierge" service that allows LOs to report Ops members that they feel aren't doing a good job, but Ops members are absolutely forbidden to use the Concierge, even if a non-responsive LO or market leader is causing them to lose bonus dollars. My numbers showed I was a top performer, I received compliments from my sales partners regularly; however, I was constantly fearful of getting in trouble for getting up to fill up my water bottle on the clock, or for talking too loudly. I was told not to talk to the underwriters directly if I had a loan-specific question, but then I was also contrarily told that Movement has an open door policy for communication among all employees. Other miscellaneous things: we would do silly games and throw cheese puffs at each others faces during the Friday morning meetings, but then get reprimanded for talking to loudly, I was asked by a co-worker to go to Elevation with them 3 times before they would accept that I did not want to go, then people anonymously started leaving Elevation pens on my desk, you're only allowed to wear one ear bud at a time when you listen to music, the toilets are always extremely smelly on the processing floor and the flushing quality is mediocre, group prayers are very awkward, they treat you like a child and expect you to act like a professional, the passive aggressiveness is engrained into the communication style among many team leads, my base salary at Movement was $32,000, I received an opportunity with another mortgage company with more flexibility, work from home ability, a decent bonus structure (with no bonus penalties!), and my base pay is $45,000. C'mon Movement, you guys had a great idea, but you ruined it by being disingenuous, deceitful, and condescending. You guys can do better, read the book Scaling Up, I think it might help you learn to grow your business more effectively.
