Toxic place to work

Pros

If you work remotely you can avoid the politics and toxic people for a while. They let you use Chrome because a lot websites don't work well with Firefox.

Cons

Terrible untrained managers. Out of date technology. Good people being pushed out for speaking up too much.

Pros

Great work-life balance is possible here, comfy, friendly culture. Some truly wonderful people. And you can kid your self into believing that you are not a sell-out because Mozilla everything "open source" if that kind of thing matters to you ;-)

Cons

The company (MoCo) is doomed, but refuses to radically pivot to save itself. Mozilla has created some great technology like Rust in the last few years, but instead of recognizing itself as a good engineering-focused company and focusing on it's strengths, management is only interested in "comsumer products" (i.e. Firefox) that are frankly doomed (and made worse by bad product and design leadership). I guess they want to have "impact" and "reach"... but you can't have either if you don't have a company. The Firefox+Google cash cow is running out of steam, and more layoffs are coming. Joining Mozilla now would be like joining Yahoo in 2012.

We are certainly happy to hear you comfortable here and that our people and our mission are a draw for you. In addition to a number of growth initiatives we have for our flagship desktop browser, we’re also investing in growth for our mobile browser and other mobile products, as well as Pocket and our Hubs product (Pocket just got a Webby award in fact!). We’re doing all of this work beyond Firefox because as you imply, we can deliver so much more to users beyond our desktop browser. And we are. Undoubtedly this past year has been a tough one, and we needed to make some changes given the evolving nature of internet (and world); this has included changes to our strategy and our structure to support these and other growth initiatives.

Pros

perks and comp are good.

Cons

It's become clear that VPs and above are just soaking up the benefits of travel and lifestyle careers. The board is hand picked by the chair as to never challenge the chair. Women and people of color are twice as likely to leave mozilla than white males. Let that sink in.
