Pros

Mozilla's mission (keeping the Web open, supporting literacy efforts, open innovation, net neutrality) is truly important and I believe Mozilla is in a unique position to drive progress in these areas. Chris Beard is a long time employee and contributor - he embodies the values of the mission. Great benefits, bonuses, gatherings in cool places twice per year. There are still some great people left who really care about the work we're supposed to be doing. There's some cool innovation going on (but we're not loud enough about it).

Cons

Politics have taken over and it's lead to a max exodus of people who truly care about Mozilla's mission and products. A new layer of management has come in and it is clear that many of them see Mozilla only as a means to another, higher position elsewhere. People are distrustful of one another and rightly so. In my department, we've started a massive process change and there's uncertainty about priorities and process on a day to day basis. This is causing uneasiness and backstabbing. Our department leads have acknowledged there's no clear career path forward using these new processes at this time.

Pros

Competitive base salary and strong cash bonus (no stocks, however) plus the occasional performance bonus (also cash). Company all-hands several times a year in exotic locations (Orlando, London, Hawaii). It's like 2-3 extra vacation weeks a year, all expenses paid. At the last one I didn't attend any of the sessions and nobody noticed or complained.

Cons

I don't know where to start. I love the mission but the place is like train wreck in slow motion ever since Brendan Eich left. The new CEO is clueless and incompetent. He's widely ridiculed inside the company even by senior management. Most of the executives are just hiding and collecting their paychecks. Over the last 2 years the company has given up on Firefox OS and is giving up on mobile in general now to focus on the desktop browser, which fewer and fewer people want to use.

Pros

- Flexible schedule: If you get the work done and attend important meetings, you can time shift your work hours a bit for appointments. Mozilla is all over the world and works to accommodate many time zones. - Remote-friendly: All meetings have videoconferencing links and presentations shared by video. There are two All Hands onsite meetings and a work week per year. Co-working and home office improvements are paid as well as professional development and travel to many events. Many engineers do not work at any of the Mozilla offices and appreciate the freedom to live anywhere. - Open source: everything you make gets contributed to the world and no one is barring you from talking about what you make, doing side projects, or giving talks. - Mission: We can feel good about being one of the few forces advocating for consumer privacy even when more data would help us to execute better. - Competitive salaries: Mozilla is improving in this respect to attract the best candidates and we pay cash instead of speculative investments in the future.

Cons

- If you have a family, you should factor in travel. There are two all hands meetings per year, which require a work week of travel each. Many teams have a work week of travel for their department also. A lot of folks bring their families, but must pay family flight expenses. Personally, I enjoy getting away, but it's not for everyone. No one will force you attend all of these, but it's encouraged because it helps to get to know your remote team members better.
