Pros

For me, everything was a pro. I loved being a part of Multicare and was grateful to be a part of such an extraordinary Healthcare System. It was a truly wonderful company to work with for and strive to be a great place to work and I hope to work for them again someday...

Cons

The current CEO is outsourcing anything and everything he possibly can while continuing to expand, grow, and acquire more and more all across Washington state. He is spending a lot of money and resources while eliminating entire departments to outsourcing and negatively affecting dedicated, loyal employees in so many ways while also costing long time employees to lose basically everything they worked so hard for during their time with Multicare.

Like most large, complex organizations, MultiCare is constantly evaluating which services are best provided internally and which are best provided by an outside “expert” resource. In the vast majority of cases, we have found that our own employees provide the highest quality, most cost-effective service. Outsourcing has been very limited over the past five years. Most recently, a decision was made to outsource much of the coding function, and several years ago Linen Services was outsourced. Last year, we made the decision to bring our Information Services Help Desk function back in-house after outsourcing it several years earlier. (Contrary to your post, the entire IS department was not outsourced.)

Pros

The medical field has some real positives, it is a fulfilling line of work. But multicare... honestly does nothing to enhance any of them.

Cons

Senior management is greedy. The companies listed values aren't really present at the top levels and that attitude trickles down. Terrible staff to patient ratios create unsafe environments. It just doesn't feel good to work here. Management sets you up to fail your patience, they pay a reasonable wage but exert pressure on you to do the job of 1.3 people.

MultiCare’s staff-to-patient ratios are consistent with those of other healthcare providers in our region. We are committed to being the Northwest’s “highest value” system of care. That requires us to manage our costs effectively (including staffing costs) while continuously working to deliver quality care.

Pros

The doctors, care, coordination, and staff are amazing. The doctors here truly care about their patients

Cons

The PHP program is an example of an oppressive management style, does not consider feedback from staff, has unhealthy expectations, and unethical practices. I've never felt 'bullied' in a workplace until working under this program. I would not recommend it for a care manager or social worker who wants to practice in an ethical manner. The entire program laid-off those of us former staff and then rehired those they wanted (myself rehired), in order to not have a union anymore. Unlicensed staff were not consistently supervised nor provided adequate staffing and supervision. It was a toxic work environment and staff who left were not consistently given exit interviews.

The Personal Health Partner (PHP) program is still fairly new. When this program was started, case managers and social workers who met the requirements were offered positions. Those who did not meet the requirements either transferred to other positions or acceptance severance packages. Exit interviews were offered at that time and continue to be offered. If you have not already shared your feedback with Employee Relations, you may want to reach out to them so your concerns can be investigated and addressed.
