      Pros

      Extremely interesting research and development porjets. One of a kind, absolutely "front-line" stuff. There are many fascinating and very smart people around and it's very easy to meet them and have them teach you something valuable, or just tell a good story. Every 2nd Friday is a day off! If you tell people you work for NASA/JPL they get proud of you. If you are working for any other DoD/DoE lab/contractor, the typical response of people is to make you feel guilty about your job.

      Cons

      Very long design review meetings (but I think they're necessary). The quality of people is a mix. Caltech's JPL is a tad less prestigious than the competing MIT's Lincoln Labs.

      Pros

      Interesting projects and nice people; great location to be in - the beautiful San Gabriel Valley. Working for Cal Tech is very rewarding

      Cons

      HR Dept has many problems and the budget conncected to Congress is worrisome. Also, there are too many hills to climb everyday.

      Small cadre of high performers - but rest are poor.

      Got the NASA sickness - too many incompetent, irresponsible individuals throughout.
