Pros

As long as it is owned by General Electric, it will be a fantastic place to make television. They tend to underpay you severly when you start, but that is true in any television job. There are NO opportunities for people there 5-10 years. There is no advancement past the Associate Producer stage.

Cons

Very little advancement in the TV business.

Pros

Good opportunities for advancement, good benefits, reputable company. NBC implements many of GE's systems when it comes to the way they run things, so you know it's going to be as professional as it gets. If you're looking to work in media while working for a reputable, corporate-minded company, NBC is it.

Cons

The only downside for me was that the internship was unpaid. It was very difficult to live in LA and devote so much time to something that I wasn't getting paid for.

Pros

The name still carries cache and can open opportunities with other media companies. NBC Universal is still a major player in the media industry and provides significant learnings opportunities to individuals who are new to media. GE training programs are top notch and widely respected. The Crotonville campus is model that other corporations should strive to match. Hours are significantly better than other industries in NYC. Late nights and weekends are rare and an emphasis is placed on work/life balance.

Cons

Limited career opportunities with a preference for promoting from the outside rather than from within. Slow moving company that's resists the changing environment that it's confronted with. Salaries are considerably less than other employers in NYC.
