Pros
NBT is headed in the right direction with their leadership and focus points for the future. Leadership seems to have a good grasp on what will help us grow and expand into new markets. Some departments are becoming more progressive and encouraging employees to take them up on offers of flexible work environments and more modern employment practices. For the most part NBT feels like a meritocracy. Benefits are solid and insurance is cheap. Single health insurance runs us about $45 a pay period.
Cons
Technology is so slowly adopted at this company that a rollout of a new software can take years. The focus seems to head towards one department and the rest get left behind. We just gained the ability to IM and video chat and it isn't even available to the whole company yet. The environment feels antiquated. Our culture has recently shifted away from the suits and ties every day but there is still the old mentality of 8-5 every day, very limited remote work, tight restrictions on PTO, and old school structure of having to go to your direct manager who goes to his direct manager who goes to his. Lastly, there is a real issue of diversity here. The executive team is about 50% women but they're all white, and the company as a whole is at least 90% white. Leadership are mostly towards the end of their careers and at times age wins over talent for promotions.
