Pros

- Random benefits being added over time due to high turnover and disgruntled employees. - The interview was easy because they never asked anything about my skill sets.

Cons

- Salary - Pay and overall compensation is not competitive to the market. The video gaming industry is known to have one of the lowest in the tech industry because it’s competitive to work in, but they’re even lower than other video gaming companies. - Lack of growth & innovation - Some people who have been there for years have said they won’t receive a promotion due to politics. Not Korean? You’re going to have trouble moving up the ladder. New projects are also hard to come by due to lack of trust from Korean HQ. Since everything is dictated by them, there is a huge lack of projects and innovation. Nothing but cash grab games. Nexon was fined nearly $9M for falsifying loot box drop rates without notice. Look it up. - High turnover - High turnover in multiple departments, but especially this one in particular. The team gets replaced every 2 years (in its last few iterations), including leadership, causing extreme dysfunctional processes and lack of industry/company knowledge. I’ve met people who left (from different teams) after 1 week or a month because the job was not as advertised to them. I’ve seen people get fired and let go due to “lack of performance.” Many folks from various teams have been put on PIP to get rid of them (or the alternative is to resign) and everyone looks the other way. - Office politics - Office politics are unavoidable in a corporate setting but Nexon makes sure the respect is not mutual. Do you love to gossip? Then this is the place for you. A particular person in leadership loves to talk negatively about her entire team to literally anyone and they intentionally stir the pot by asking other people who they don’t like at the office. Managers/leaders go hard when it comes to playing favorites and they are not shy about it, this goes for multiple departments. - Hiring under qualified managers - This is really one for the books because this still stands from old reviews years ago. STOP hiring your friends to do leadership roles who have ZERO experience in marketing and lack managerial/leadership skills. A previous director drove her department to the ground resulting in disgruntled employees. - Rules don’t apply to everyone - The office requires everyone to follow the hybrid policy a couple days in office a week, except the enforcer–comical. They don’t live in California and are flown in for a week every month with accommodations paid for. Funny how the enforcer doesn’t follow their own policy. This is why your salary is so low. - Lack of empathy - You have to advocate for yourself to the nth degree because management is not there to help you, nor is HR. I’ve seen some coworkers get yelled/scolded at. I’ve seen people cry. They’re waiting on people’s downfalls. HR will say they promote wellness but this is all done on your own time. *If you are experiencing trouble at the office, they will find ways to push you out instead of helping you.* - Lack of professionalism - Management loves to point fingers, gaslight, and never takes accountability for their actions. People are on their phones in meetings and disengaged when being presented to - included external partners which is disgusting. And those in leadership are often late to meetings without any notice. You wouldn’t want your team to act like that, would you? - No WLB - Expect to get messages from your manager after office hours, while you’re on PTO, or even bereavement leave. Huge lack of boundaries from management. - Micromanagers - Doesn’t matter how hard you work, management will break their neck micromanaging you - this goes for multiple departments. They just want to have control over you and abuse their power doing so, especially if you’re not their favorite. - Lack of boundaries - Production and Community teams have no sense of boundaries when it comes to marketing. Everyone wants to play in marketing because it’s more “glamorous” than their own job. Everyone wants a say in creative feedback when it’s not their job. The Community team doesn’t respect marketing consistency and they’re supposed to be working closely with marketing but they’re off in their own world.

Pros

I went to contribute to this company because it has good pay and welfare and is the top player in the Korean game industry.

Cons

A rigid organizational culture, an inevitable top-down organizational culture.
