Pros

The Pay, The Benefits, Free Oatmeal and Coffee

Cons

Everything Else. But, seriously the made-up rules, made up test just stressful and overwhelming. Plus it's an old, micromanaged, yt boy's club. There are people there that are simply lollygagging through their day but they're never the ones being reprimanded or placed under a microscope. Some of the people are sweet and helpful, but they usually work from home so you don't see them much. I also think that if they're going to make their new employees know so much in such little time they should have better patience with them. Also, why have security escort people out like criminals at least allow people the decency to get their things and call their own ride. All in all, I learned a great deal about insurance but that environment made me nauseous, depressed and angry daily. I don't even think the money is worth it; and of course, not everyone will feel this way but if you do just know I understand.

Pros

The benefits are good and good amount of time off. The bonus is decent if you can managed to meet the metrics to get it

Cons

I can only speak for personal lines but you are micromanaged to the t. Your schedule is planned out for you Which sounds great in theory but in reality , you spend most of you day trying to adhere to it and when you get stuck on a long call and need to write a long note your harassed to hurry up. If you need a day off you better make sure you know about it a year in advance other wise your screwed. when you actually need a day good luck cause they won’t let you leave early and it’s a miracle when they do . There is a huge disconnect between upper management and what is really going on. The supervisors are so far removed they don’t even know the Proper procedures yet they’re supposed to coach you on how to do things correctly. A pro is it doesn’t take much to get promoted the downside about that is they promote just about anyone they like The downside they have people with no experience as Underwriters And supervisors. The best is the programs used. They are out dated and always have issues. They have a department that handles “tech issues” but no one in that group is actually trained in IT so when they roll out a new program 3 other things break. Don’t look for morale because there’s none. When it gets busy they threaten you to do overtime otherwise they will force you to. Part of the reason no one wants to do overtime is because the lack of appreciation for the hard work that is put in.

Disappearing Benefits

Pros

The buildings have heat in the winter and air conditioning in the summer.

Cons

NJM used to be a great place to work. However, in the past 10 years the culture has gotten really bad but the saving grace was that they still had great benefits. Unfortunately, the benefits are disappearing now too. In 2014 they eliminated the pension for new hires and it's only a matter of time until they stop contributing to the pensions of employees hired before 2014 (The writing is on the wall). This year they quietly got rid of the matched FSA which was a huge benefit to me and my family. Now it's gone. Each year the medical insurance premiums are rising faster than the medical costs in the US which means that the employees are increasingly being asked to pay more toward the premiums while the company pays less. Advice: If you're a confident and skilled individual then find another company to work for. This place clearly doesn't value the talent that the current employees have nor does it care to attract the best talent in the industry.
