Not a place to start a career

Pros

Great place to work at if you are looking for flexible schedules with little overtime and lots of vacation opportunities. Growing company with small company feel. Lots of company events and bonuses and freebies. Works out if you are in with the cliques.

Cons

Perks not good enough to make up for all the nepotism and cliques. You either fit in or die trying. No training and very little effort on the part of the partners or managers to make sure work is done well. Everyone just trying to survive. Office culture is sink or swim, like working in hell with time off for good behavior. Make sure you are nice to all those that got their job through being a family member of the partners or else you will get nowhere. Not everyone trained the same. Lots of favoritism.

Pros

Rarely work overtime. Option to work 4, 10 hours days per week, so you have permanent Fridays off work. Everyone is very friendly. Staff is mostly straight out of school. Staff is about 22-25 years old.

Cons

WARNING: NKSF does not perform financial statement audits. NKSF only performs payroll compliance audits. The audits they perform are of entertainment companies to ensure that the companies have made the proper pension and health contributions on behalf of the performers to the respective trust funds (WGA, DGA, AFTRA, etc.). The CPA license that they offer are general licenses. NKSF does not offer attesting experience. Very little career growth unless you leave quickly and go work in real public accounting. If you stay here longer than a few years, you will have a VERY tough time finding another job as the experience you gain working here is very specialized and cannot be applied to general accounting. Pay is low with small raises.

Pros

Working in Audit gives you the flexibility of a 4 day/week, 10 hour/day schedule. Friendly environment, everyone is around the same age group on the staff level which makes it easy to relate to one another. Award winning office, good location (Westwood) Not too much micro-management, good exposure to niche market of entertainment and production accounting/audits. Opportunity to network and come in direct contact with professionals from entertainment studios (Disney, Fox, Warner Bros, etc....). Overall, decent pay for entry level accountants/recent college grads.

Cons

Too much nepotism and people promoted to job/titles that they do not deserve with people under them doing all the work. No management or partner involvement which trickles down and shows itself with lack of proper training, management, help. Noticeable politics involved, as well as favoritism. Not everyone receives the same treatment in terms of training and staff are often given projects without any guidance. Expectations are never clear which results in confusion. Though initial pay is on par with mid-tier market level salary, raises are very low. Also, the company does not perform financial statement audits which limits exit opportunities. CPA's are given "general" licenses (as opposed to attested ones)
