Pros

-NSC management got to know you personally if you were in the home office. -They had a business casual dress code. -

Cons

-NSC always wanted to you work beyond your job description, and by that I mean people would constantly be filling in for one another, traveling on short notice, and learning new skills that would normally qualify you for a promotion without promoting you. -NSC, in my opinion, did not do enough promoting from within. For upper management jobs, there were plenty of people that were very loyal to the company who would want to fill open positions, but they seemed to hire more outsiders.

Pros

There were several members of the HR team (non leadership) who made my time at NSC bearable. They were passionate and hardworking individuals who deeply cared about there job and the employees. Unfortunately many leadership decisions made it hard for these team members to do their job. Benefits were ok but there were constant cost cutting measures so I cannot speak to what is available now.

Cons

Multiple cycles of layoffs during my year an a half. They would go through phases of hiring smart, capable individuals and would either run them into the ground or let them go in the name of OPEX savings. Turnover was absolutely insane. I am honestly surprised that the organization is still profitable. The only reason they are able to continue to hire workers is because they hire entry level recruiters. There is absolutely no integrity in leadership throughout any of the departments which is one of the NSC "core values". The leadership team was constantly unprofessional and several manager level and above employees were able stay with the organization even after many issues and offenses.

Pros

Strong benefits and 401K. Culture of bringing in entry-level workers and creating space for them to work up into middle management. Great place to get started. Culture of people who care deeply about what they do, and take pride in their work.

Cons

No work life balance. Pressure to be available 24/7, emails from managers late at night or on the weekends that makes it feel as though it is hard to keep up. "Good old boy" culture of upper management. High turnover of middle and upper management - 5-8 years of service is a danger zone, most middle managers get politely separated in that time frame, usually taking the fall for upper management who eventually leave anyway. Only 1 or 2 employees other than the CEO and his wife there for more than 10 years, not counting the acquired companies.
