Vital mission, great benefits, great people. The work is important and interesting, highly variable, and different every day.
Cons
Civil Service is an inept agency administering an obsolete system which actually hurts staffing. Required testing is not offered in a timely fashion causing people to work as provisional employees for years and years. And merit (being good at one's job) is not rewarded due to the civil service system; what is rewarded is the ability to take a test which does not necessarily test for skills necessary for the job. There are not enough staff to complete the work. This has dramatically reduced morale, although staffing is very slowly creeping up.
