A company that still hasn't grown up....

Pros

Easy commute options with Cal train from the city and centrally located on the Peninsula

Cons

Extremely poor and unexperienced leadership team Poor planning and lack of experience on senior executives' part results in chaos, long hours and conflicting priorities for rest of employees. Lack of opportunities for female leaders Still lacks basic infrastucture expected for a company that's been in existence for more than ten years. Finances are in disarray. There is no formal budgeting process in place, resulting in poor fiscal management poor relationships with vendors.

Good company that gets a bad rap.

Pros

Smart people & a fun/social work environment. The company and leadership really want to make quality products that help make people's lives better. Work here is challenging and isn't always easy, but it is always worthwhile. There have been growing pains over the past few years, but management tries to resolve them. That is what life at a burgeoning company is like. I like it here. There is a lot of opportunity for growth. The company expects (but recognizes) hard work.

Cons

Judging by other reviews left here, there are obviously some departments or groups that are having a rough time and being vocal about it. I don't see any of this hostility on a day to day basis at work. Adjustment to the pace here and the continued growth of the company takes some perseverance.

Thank you for the very thoughtful feedback. We are pleased to hear you have had such a positive experience during your time with Natera. We completely agree that there are areas that need some major focus to improve employee’s day to day experience. We are working on quite a few initiatives in 2017 to address these concerns. This includes newly created leader trainings, improvements around compensation and benefits, and a stronger focus on Glassdoor and employee feedback. Thank you for being such a loyal employee and growing with us during this exciting time of change!

Post IPO company growing pains

Pros

Differentiated technology. A commercially successful example of NGS in the clinic. Many opportunities to grow and have an impact. And of course, catered lunches on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Cons

Founding team is still trying to run the company as an old boys club instead of embracing the talent brought in post-IPO. Promotion criteria, annual goals, and performance metrics unclear. Favored individual contributors have been promoted to management positions with little evidence of leadership, business acumen, or even proficiency in their functional roles. Company culture embodies the Silicon Valley stereotype of youthful arrogance. Software managers perpetuate this stereotype by overstepping boundaries, assuming that technology expertise translates to commercial success. Additionally, software managers have a disproportionate voice on the senior management team, which allows them to shelter their teams at the expense of other functions. This results in a love/hate bifurcation: people in the protected groups will give the company five stars and people in the unprotected groups will give unfavorable reviews on Glassdoor.

We agree wholeheartedly that we should trust and listen to our people which is why we have recently conducted a formal and thorough employee engagement survey. We are working diligently to use the feedback from the survey and all other feedback we receive through TINYpulse and Glassdoor to improve the areas that concern employees most. Action plans to address and resolve those concerns are actively being made now in order to reach our goal to become the best places to work in 2017. Thanks for your feedback and best wishes to you!
