Pros

The pay and benefits are on par with private industry. Depending upon your account, you get numerous opportunities to see the world and impact global security.

Cons

It's government work after all and with that comes bloated bureaucracy. Their acquisition cycle is abysmal - do not expect to see, much less use, the latest and greatest GIS software tools (you know, all the stuff you used in grad school). And it almost takes an act of God to get promoted.

Pros

This is a very good agency to work for. NGA has some amazing training and travel opportunities. The monetary compensation is excellent. Flexible work schedules are fantastic. This is one of the best federal agencies with some of the best benefits and policies. There are no longer core hours so you can go in really early and leave early or go in late and stay late. Lunch is no longer required so you only have to work 40 hours a week and not 42.5 like most federal employees. You are also authorized up to 3 hours a week to exercise pending supervisory approval.

Cons

Due to the fact that this is an intelligence agency you may be responsible for analyzing intelligence during the holiday season. You don't have to work on holidays but if you are new to your team you will be expected to work before or after major holidays while the more senior team members will take the day off.

Pros

Very interesting work with real impact on world events. Open culture unlike most intelligence agencies. Clear, achievable career path. Clear Strategic Plans to help focus the workforce and prioritize work.

Cons

Nature of work does not allow for much telework opportunities.
