Pros

The pretty building, Starbucks, Pay, Benefits and some nice people abound. New Director seems to have the balls to get order in the court.

Cons

Fifteen years of experience so I can frankly state, about 70% of the leadership is poor. Engagement is poor. There is a lack of strategic direction and multiple offices doing the same work. The Human Development (the HR arm of NGA) organization uses bullying and intimidation methods to manage people. We have a new Director and it appears he will make positive change. However, it will take time to clean up the "mess." Flatten the organization; the agency will be more efficient.

Pros

Good benefits, somewhat competitive salaries (unless you're entry level). I'm not sure if this should go in the "Cons" section, but once you're past the 2 year probationary period, your job is very permanent.

Cons

Government job, very controlling, think Animal Farm. Significant amount of cronyism, nepotism, fraud, waste and abuse. Furloughs are always a possibility, however, that's mainly due to the inability of our congress to make decisions which are more difficult than where take their vacations at.
