Pros

Understands change needs to happen, not a public sector organisation anymore Performance management is now key to success Plenty of opportunities Great work life balance

Cons

Long term staff have never worked anywhere else and have an attitude of expectation Need to upskill managers in modern practices that are not engineering bias to understand best practice

Pros

As a large company it offered a diverse array of roles and projects to be engaged with.

Cons

The nature of project work is that it does have a finite end date. This meant your job security in the role was low. National Grid used project roles as a way of being able to keep your base rate lower than the total amount they would pay if they had you on a substantiated role. This effects your pension contributions.

Pros

The people are lovely and have a real desire to make things happen and to change and adapt. You are able to use your initiative and work autonomously to make a difference. There are many different projects to get involved with with excellent team work. NG Gas are making a real commitment to engaging employees and skilling everyone with core capabilities that the company needs to excel. Refurbed office environments are great. It's very easy to collaborate internally and with partners. There is a very real ambition to achieve excellence in the industry which is exciting.

Cons

Lack of recognition. Lifers get away with laziness and poor discipline and a few bullies get away with poor behaviours. Salary expectations are hidden and there is no view of how to achieve full bonus potential. Managers that devote their life to the company (13 hour days + weekends), think you should do the same, and don't thank you for it even though you are going above and beyond. It can painfully slow to get things done and there is way too much red tape. Everyone wants to know everything, which slows you down (but doesn't stop you) from getting on with things.
