Pros

National Life overall is a decent place to work – they have good benefits including health and wellness centers, tuition reimbursement, employee discounts, and other perks some workplaces don’t offer. Depending on what department you’re in, there is room for development and growth. Most employees are hard workers and devoted to National Life’s values of Do Good, Be Good, and Make Good. The company understands the need for corporate social responsibility and lives these values through foundation grants, actively participating in the local community, and recognizing unsung heroes outside of the financial services industry. This is great for those of us who have a desire to work for companies that are making a difference and allow their employees to actively participate in the process.

Cons

The culture at National Life used to be much stronger. Unfortunately, this culture seems to be evaporating and servant leadership tenets that were once preached become less noticeable by the day. Top tier leadership seems to care more about leads and profit margins than living out our company values. They also seem to be out of touch with lower level employees who struggle to pay their bills. National Life is also lacking in diversity, particularly when it comes to its top tier leadership – you’ll find very few women or people of color included. This company used to have a big heart, hopefully they can find it again someday.

Pros

This could be a great Company. It's size is an advantage in that it is numble and could adapt to a changing marketplace. The problem is that the CEO is spinning a tale with the goal (in reality) of enriching himself. Period. It is a very real problem at National Life.

Cons

I agree with many who have stated that the Company lacks any real strategy or direction. Do Good, Be Good, Make Good is a meaningless sound byte. This "great culture" that people alude to is so shallow. Management get shuffled around based upon whether you are in good stead with the CEO. So everyone spends all their time and energy maintaining what is quite frankly an illusion. These problems are very easy to see because they are so prevalent. It's just that many are playing a game of protecting themselves at the expense of the long term good of the Company.
