Pros

No pros! At NVI, benefits are terrible, no maternity pay UNLESS you pre sign up for “short term disability” coverage during open enrollment. (So I have to decide each November if I’m going to become pregnant the next year if I want maternity pay) ridiculous!!!! Sometimes as women we DONT KNOW IF WE ARE GOING TO BECOME PREGNANT! This is such a slap to the face for all women! How dare you assume we can pre plan that, or if we deal with infertility, we might fight for years to finally become pregnant. How dare you create a loophole to avoid paying maternity leave.

Cons

Pay. Managers overwhelmed and expected to work 45-50 hours, salary expectations create issues if you have a family. You must work at least 5 days a week and must always clock in at least 40-45 hours on said 5 days or your salary pay is deducted. How is that salary…? There is absolutely no benefit to being a salary manager for this company. Please look at your salary pay scale and the cost of living in Utah. As managers if we have a family your pay scale leaves us at poverty level in a lot of states, especially with daycare and other inflated costs. Read that again, POVERTY LEVEL. I’m at a poverty level doing a optical sales/healthcare job I excel at, and I’ve had a 0.33 cent raise in 3 years. Should I feel appreciated..? Really..? Where’s the hazard pay for working everyday during the pandemic?? Where’s your empathy for us who show up to work and are overwhelmed and overworked doing 11 hour shifts with no time to take a break because we CAN NOT RETAIN A STAFF WITH THE PAY SCALE YOU HAVE SET IN PLACE!

No Diversity

Pros

The “black” IT Manager I worked for (whom is no longer there, go figure) was great to work for, he embraced growth and a team environment. I learned a lot.

Cons

National Vision is corrupt at the core. There is no diversity at this company. African Americans are set back 300 years while working here. Racism is running rapid here! An individual with a position of power made negative public posts and voiced negative opinions on blacks as well as how this company "sells eyeglasses to poor people" he is able to keep his position even after "blacks and whites" have went to the department head to complain, whom stated, "he isn't going anywhere!". Beware!!!! The whites advance while the blacks remain like slaves here. I feel sorry for the sponsers, they have no idea whom they are supporting unless they are racist themselves.

Pros

They provide reimbursement when you receive your certification and licenses.

Cons

My manager is not certified or licensed. She sits on her cell phone all day instead of working. She is manipulative and gets her way, even when she is wrong. She will force walkins on the doctor and messes up the schedule. She has refused a military discount to a veteran. She will steal company time and vouchers. My coworkers and I reported her to HR, but the management at National Vision is so incompetent that they would allow such behavior from managers in their stores. They pay minimum wage to licensed opticians. Bringing up issues to management causes even more problems. I haven't gotten paid for work I've done six months ago. They try to pay employees as little as possible. There are almost no opportunities for growth.
