Pros

Decent salary, good retirement benefits including a pension plan and a 401k. Because of the size of the company you can find a decent work environment if you have the right manager.

Cons

Upper management is clueless. Promotions are based on politics not merit. Upper management talks about core values and hard work but upper management has no values. They work for their bonuses at the expense of everything else. Engagement surveys are a joke, If upper management gets bad engagement scores, they blame lower employees and threaten them if they don't rate management higher the next time.

Pros

large company with promotion opportunities if you can excel at the political games. Nice location and building.

Cons

Get ready for the most chaotic and high stress job of your career. This is a company is constant flux and perpetual change. This is primarily due to the brilliant folks from Nationwide that felt it would be a great idea to run a highly specialized commercial E&S carrier just like a standard personal lines carrier.

Pros

In a field position with lots of freedom to do the work you need as you need to.

Cons

Management is still 're-aligning' and seems to all be within the corporate HQ. They 'believe and support' the field work but do not actually understand all the resourses and tools needed. Always being told more stuff is coming and we are the best, etc. Bottom line: more $$ for the real work, real employees do everyday is required. Otherwise, talent will be wasted and will learn and leave.
