Pros

Nationwide is a fortune 100 company, and is diversified between both the P&C and Life (Nationwide Financial) side of the business. Nationwide understands it's position in the marketplace, and is working to change deficiencies within the culture, systems, and people, etc. The environment is constantly changing at Nationwide. Pay is fair, work / life balance is respected for the most part, and Columbus is a great place to live.

Cons

The constant change includes a turnstyle at the senior management level. There appears to be very disconnected views on short and long term strategy for the business and operations. This change and churn at the management level and associated direction creates a very political environment to work in. Often you are expected to choose a "camp", and really tie your career to the political battles of a few. Nationwide of late has experienced some really bad times (though to be fair, most financial services companies have as well). The outcome of this has been a directive to reduce FTE, and employee know it, creating very poor moral. Many Jobs are being cut in the fall of 2008 and are expected to continue into 2009. Unfortunantly, not a real positive environment right now.

Pros

This used to be an excellent company to work for. I have been given some wonderful opportunities that I would not have been given at any other company. But, Nationwide has changed. Communication to the field is a joke, customer service has suffered and senior management has seemingly disappeared.

Cons

I don't have an idea of where the company is going. I am expected to have a 5 year plan. Nationwide seems to always be in chaos.
