Pros

This used to be an excellent company to work for. I have been given some wonderful opportunities that I would not have been given at any other company. But, Nationwide has changed. Communication to the field is a joke, customer service has suffered and senior management has seemingly disappeared.

Cons

I don't have an idea of where the company is going. I am expected to have a 5 year plan. Nationwide seems to always be in chaos.

Pros

Face to face interaction with customers in my position showed that many within the company do care about the customers.

Cons

Face to face interaction with senior management showed that the company does not care about their employees, especially those over 40 years old. You are well respected by upper management for your performance but when you turn 40 years old, upper management then tells you how you are a poor performer even though your work product has not suffered. This is how they get rid of those over 40. Blame the work product, put the employee on "work improvement" and then fire the employee in the end. The company now does not have to pay your growing salary and can now hire two younger workers at half price.

Pros

It's a job but not much more than that. If you like a company that is content with being stagnant and suppresses innovation and initiative, Nationwide is for you.

Cons

If you are over 45 years of age, forget any promotional opportunities, assistance with career development and keep an eye over your shoulder, as Nationwide openly practices age discrimination. Also, pay, promotions and recognition are not based on performance of achievement, they are based on who you know. Cronyism is a significant problem at Nationwide and is major reason for the low morale. Nationwide has very thin bench strength, having purged it's most innovative and experienced employees. Those who weren't fired, left are or are leaving because of the incompetent management. Natioiwide sucks all the ambition and creativity out of you.
