Pros

Very stable job in an expensive state.

Cons

As of 2016, a GS-13 manager is making $100K; highest salary range in the Shipyard is ~$160K. There is not a lot of room to grow as the top is very thin. Senior management consistently fails to hold people accountable => underachievers retain their jobs.

Pros

Competitive pay including overtime above 40 hrs per week and night differential, great benefits and vacation time, and challenging work. Excellent growth opportunities at early stages of career.

Cons

Lots of overtime, weekends, shift work, some positions have a lot of "voluntary" travel for 6-9 months at a time, government work so implementing change can be difficult. Parking situation is terrible and Bremerton is not the most desirable place to live.

Pros

Very good benefits, and low risk of loosing your position. This is a good company to start out your career, but over time your skills will start to become too specific to be directly marketable to other companies. Your job carer will be what you make of it, and unless you drive the advancement you will stall in one position.

Cons

Overall negative attitudes. This extends to navy personnel that you are in a direct working relationship with. You may find 1 in every 10 that re good to work with, but over time this becomes very exhausting. The shipyard is not interested in improving their workforce, and unless you work at it yourself, you will find yourself very behind your counterparts that you graduated college with when it comes to skills.
