Pros

Good benefits, you know almost exactly when you will receive raises. No drug test.

Cons

They state you will make $75-90k starting, but that's not for at least 2.5-3 years. Starting is closer to 55k. Most engineers don't figure this out until they have already signed paperwork, gone through security clearance check, etc. What do you expect from a Fed shipyard where you can't get fired and everybody lives in a drug filled navy town? Sexual harassment, terrible management, and lots of office politics. A lot of my engineering friends from around the shipyard complained about being bored for weeks, then overloaded, then mandatory overtime even if you had nothing to work on. Management doesn't give a damn about you, and why should they? Management has no reason to work hard or invest in their workforce. Don't fall for the Bremerton trap!

Pros

I worked for Code 950, Shop 67. The management is very family oriented, and empathetic and understanding of personal needs. If you are honest and cool headed, you will make nice friends and lasting relationships with co workers. There is also a lot of room and space for advancing up the chain and moving into places that best suit you. Worker safety is a TOP priority here. They encourage good relationships between management and worker, they encourage a learning system from the "bottom- up", a good work place environment and ethics.

Cons

Can be tiring, demanding, and dirty. Some work environments can be dangerous. Politics and social clicks sometimes form.
