Pros

Passionate, talented people maniacally focused on customers and their success; Strong culture of constantly raising the bar, challenging the status quo and leading industry innovation. During recent, very difficult times with business travel halted due to coronavirus, the company had to do layoffs--Even worse given the current WFH reality and the only way to have these conversations was via video conference. I was disappointed to see the layoffs, particularly of such talented colleagues, but proud that our leadership team is doing all it can to take care of those colleagues - making the changes effective the first day of April so they would have health benefits for the entire month; offering two months of company-paid health insurance beyond that plus a minimum of 3 weeks severance; redirecting the remaining recruiting team to focus on helping impacted employees find jobs, update their resumes and LinkedIn profiles, and sharing their contact info with our VCs' portfolio companies to help them find jobs. True character comes through in the bad times, not the good times. While i hated to see that we had to do layoffs, I'm proud of how the company is doing it's best to take care of these employees while ensuring we are here for our customers.

Cons

If you aren't accustomed to an incredibly fast pace, this is not the place for you. We move faster than anywhere I've ever seen or been. The work ethic of employees matching their passion. You cannot skate by inside this company. Everyone is here with purpose.

Pros

Dog friendly offices, free food and snacks.

Cons

Inexperienced leadership across the board that unfortunately placed little trust and investment in their employees. There is no regard for the wellbeing of employees even if they say otherwise. It’s been common to see people get terminated less than 90 days in which is not a lot of time to ramp in a new role, and there are no communications from management when someone is terminated. An employee could be here one day and never show up again for work the next day, leading to a lot of fear in the workplace. Leadership at the top preaches company values but no one demonstrates those values, and unfortunate politics have ended up degrading the company culture. At the end of the day, you feel like a worthless commodity at TripActions, easily thrown away at any time.

Hypergrowth destroyed TripActions culture

Pros

-Amazing group of people to work with -Top-notch benefits (Pre-COVID) -Bar far the best product in the market -Growing fast (Pre-COVID)

Cons

Where do I even start? TripActions was truly an amazing place to work at, but unfortunately, greed, money, and hypergrowth got in the way. I remember the days when TripActions was a culture and employee-first company. Everyone was passionate about their role at the company and humbled about the opportunity to transform the travel industry. Instead of growing organically and sustainably, leadership decided it was a great idea to scale the org from 80 to 1,000 employees in the span of two years. You can only imagine what can go wrong when a company grows that fast. It's like building the Empire State building without the walls, floors, electrical, plumbing, etc. On the outside, it looks beautiful, but once you go inside, everything is exposed. That is precisely what TripActions is. Culture slowly but surely started to crumble and started becoming obvious amongst employees in every office. Management started talking behind people's back, weekly Kool-Aid sessions were held with leadership, and cool clubs began popping up in every department. I felt a hint of favoritism and racism. I noticed employees who were minorities starting to get terminated first, and at one point, I remember 6-8 in a row minority firings. Coincidence? Maybe.... The sales team became a cutthroat environment of pressure selling and not taking a no for an answer. Targets & goals became astronomically ludicrous and unsustainable. On top of that, the comp plan worked against your favor if you did well and took about a year to finally be addressed. Leadership started to compare TripActions to landing the man on the moon and even to curing cancer!! At the end of the day, TripActions is simply a travel tool and not anywhere close to being an essential product that companies need to operate. Hence the reason for revenue going down and layoffs. It was only a matter of time until people saw the real side of TripActions. Leadership only cares about themselves and have no empathy for anyone below them. The amazing culture that once was is dead, and TripActions will serve as a case study on how not to build a company.
