Pros

I work in a pretty store, I am offered a good employee discount which they double several times a year, their are opportunities to do charitable work, most of the customers are very nice and we offer luxury products.

Cons

The negative management style starting with the store manager's attitude, trickles down. It has become a super micro-managed environment. My position is commission only, however, we are managed as if we are hourly earners that they must squeeze every moment to get their monies worth. If I'm not productive on my own, I don't earn anything. The online portion of the company is always offering promotions, sometimes dropping 1-2 days before the stores offer the same promotion. This is training the customer to wait for discounts, points, etc. but mostly to shop online. This contributes to the obsolescence of the brick & mortar stores. We have seen a dramatic drop in shopper traffic within the store.

Pros

Nice work environment. Smart people. Professional and polite.

Cons

Leadership is clueless. No motivation or appreciation. Not good $$$. Raises suck. Almost no opportunity for advancement.

Pros

People still think about the Neiman Marcus that existed when Stanley Marcus was alive so it's great to have their name on your résumé. The compensation they offer is very competitive.

Cons

They are no longer the great company they once were. I was in a management role there and have many years of industry experience. The culture at NM is very secretive - with associates and customers. There's a lot of "smoking mirrors" about business (ie. saying things are good when business is really terrible). The company is basically working in the red. With the second sale to private equity buyers the company now OWES more than they are worth (according to an article in WWD). They are constantly turning out the same old sale promotions over and over expecting different results. There is no innovation or thinking outside the box. Corporate is obsessed with what their competitors are doing instead of focused on ways to rebuild their brand and generate real sales.
