OST/ Sales Support

Pros

Employee discount, mostly nice coworkers, nice-looking stores, stores are closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Stores close early unlike other retailers.

Cons

The other reviews are right—if you do not generate sales, you really are undervalued. Everyone in the sales support (OST, Loss Prevention, Alterations, and Visual Merchandising) are underpaid and overworked. We do not get a lot of support from the management unlike the sales associates and their managers. The sales associates get NM rewards, gift cards, and other freebies apart from their commission and the sales support people barely get anything. The programs and applications used are not on par with other companies. Case in point: we use Internet Explorer for almost everything, which makes everything more complicated when it should not be. We are also sharing our computers—4 people are using 1 computer to check our emails, log in into our other NM accounts, and use the other necessary applications. The OST team is also treated like the help. Everyone in the store does not see our value. The sales support can actually be productive even if the store is closed but the entire store cannot operate without us. We are the backbone of every store and yet I have never witnessed the company giving us more value. We are expected to meet certain standards, as everyone does, yet once we deliver and excel, we do not get rewarded—we only get emails that say, “Congratulations!”, and that is it. There is no growth in this company unless you stay with them for at least 10 years. We also do not get 40 hours per week—we only get 37.5 hours.

Pros

Surrounded by strong minded, smart people makes collaborations and accountability at a high level. Easy to accomplish goals in a productive environment.

Cons

Luxury segment is getting hammered, layoffs and reductions across all levels. High value employees at risk - tenure appears to not be a factor we are losing brilliant minds.
