We thank you for your review, but we do wish you could have offered us more specific details. It’s hard to improve without knowing where our employees’ concerns lie. That said, we’ve already seen exciting developments and recent changes within the company, in part based on fresh insight brought in by our new CEO — including lots of new other faces in senior management, management, and other levels. We expect more innovation to come, and we wish you the best whether you stick with us for it or seek opportunities elsewhere. If you do wish to talk about specific concerns, feel free to reach out at 571-372-9200.

Pros

Some perks and benefits. They like to talk about how amazing and great they are...

Cons

Alot of their methodologies and tools they use are not cutting edge or up to date with current trends. I could go in details but that would violate confidentiality agreement. The pay is extremely low and the compensation. Some teams may reward you for merit, but from my observation. There's alot of favoritism. Last I was there, they were so 1980's still. If you get a task, it goes on a paper. When you are done you fill a paper report and details of what you did and evidence of your work, Then put that cover sheet on it. It's basically a TPS report like Office Space. Some places may use new tools and programs but there's so bureaucratic and favoritism. If you want to be a rock star in your field, do not come here unless you have few options. Anyone you meet who is there for a long time, it's because they're best buds with CEO and directors. See the programming languages, and management technique and like going backwards in time, not forward. The HQ is an ancient building. The 5th floor I heard is haunted. Depending on your department, you can be all over in Lansing in ancient buildings. Or you could have an office inside a house. That's right. They buy houses and stick small departments in each one. I was very confused and I thought I was being scammed when I first worked there.

Thanks for your review, and for getting into the specifics of where we can improve. We’re sorry you didn’t have a great experience in your department, though we hope we can address some of your concerns. As a company, we’re dedicated to making all the transitions necessary as we go from being a small company to a global one. Different areas of the company use different processes, and in recent months, several have launched programs aiming to implement more modern processes and organizational software, all of which are improved in terms of tech and functionality. Neogen started out as a small company, and still retains a close-knit feel in many ways. It’s not unusual for employees — long tenured or short tenured — to have friendly relationships with our CEO and other members of upper management. Our CEO himself has only been here for a year, but already feels like one of the family. A lot of people who are well known in their respective industries, be they in genomics, food safety or animal safety, have come from Neogen, or are even still here today. We do use pre-existing buildings for our departments, and the buildings at our Lansing location are predominately re-purposed historical schools and homes that have been refurbished, bettering the communities they are located in. Some of our smaller departments are in houses in part for confidentiality reasons — fewer people from other departments are exposed to confidential information. However, none of our buildings reach five stories, and fortunately, there are no ghosts, at least, not that we’ve seen. Thanks again for your advice. As we grow, we want to take people’s feedback and use it to truly be open minded, flexible, and innovative as a company. We wish you the best in your new role.

Pros

Decent Benefits and a resume booster

Cons

The company does not pay well and some departments expect employees to work overtime, but do not pay them for the hours.
