Company has poor culture & many managers are poor leaders.
Pros
If you have a background in science, it’s a good job if you’re right out of college. The data group & data services look at a lot of DNA results, & the lab work seemed pretty good, for a starter job.
Cons
Very poor culture. Too often, management couldn’t see problems coming down the road. They’d build an addition to one building, & they’d quickly outgrow it, when, in reality, they could have built a larger addition that would have contained their growth for a few more years. In addition, the two managers I had had some of the worst people skills I’ve ever encountered. One of them had a PhD, & thought it made him god. The other had a demeanor like managed a Walmart, not a valuable department. There wasn’t a single manager there who cared about culture; only care about strict adherence to rules, and they didn’t listen to anyone under them. The reason they hire so much out of college is because they can’t stand anyone who came up in an outside company who might have had a different experience than someone in the company. I was asked to leave, and while it is costing me money, I’m glad I’m not there anymore. Also, the Human Resources Deparment was full of infective communicators. They put stuff so vaguely sometimes, and couldn’t clarify an issue even if you asked. When I was let go, they cut my health insurance the day I was terminated, which is pretty insensitive given the current attitude about health insurance.
