Pros

Salary, benefits and independence (although, lesser so these days).

Cons

Zero work/life balance. Golden handcuffs. Pigeon-holed in expertise. The culture of fear is real and alive, ostensibly b/c you are only as good as your last success. Performance is subjective and 100% based on your manager-of-the-week’s POV… hence the ridiculous involuntary churn of talented people.
