Pros

Pension Good job security Subsidised rail travel to work

Cons

Diversity and mental health concerns are preached from the rooftops but if you are unlucky enough to have a bullying manager (and there are plenty of them), you have problems. HR won't help you and if you take out a grievance, the hearing managers tend to find any excuse not to uphold your complaint. Watch out for favouritism and ageism too (older male employees aren't valued if they're in the lower grades).

Good employer overall, but still room for improvement

Pros

35hr weekly contract, opportunities for training & development, subsidised season rail ticket, 28 days annual leave, good pension scheme, on-site safety prioritized

Cons

Internal politics, 24 / 7 business - difficult to 'switch off', challenging deadlines mean correct processes not always followed, possible redundancy at end of 'control period' (every 5 years), office culture of not taking lunch breaks and working over contract hours
