Rewarding, if you can stand the pace.

Pros

Relative stability and security due to the relationship with funding through the ORR.

Cons

At senior levels, hideous hours, with no expectation of work life balance - 70 hours a week minimum. Painful to get change implemented.

Pros

Working on rail safety is rewarding in itself, network rail has a very dedicated safety team and despite management are very loyal and helpful to each other

Cons

Never really knowing if you will have the same job month by month. Management on the safety side are always looking to load more work onto employees for the same pay, trying to erode conditions of employment. As far as safety is concerned "hairbrained" is all I can say about some of the changes they want to make.
