Good entry level experience with room for advancement if you are passionate about brain injuries and autism

Pros

Supervisors are very supportive and always available to give feedback. You get great client interaction with 3+ hour sessions, so it is good experience for rapport building. It provides good entry level experience working with individuals with brain injuries, autism, and other neurological disorders. There is always room for advancement to a clinical coordinator position or other office positions, if you want to pursue a lifelong career in this field. There is a lot of driving to and between clients and you also drive clients during sessions. The company reimburses this mileage for you, covering gas and maintenance.

Cons

There is a lot of driving. You could be scheduled with clients who are over an hour apart. There's no compensation for work you do from home. The office expects you to get all work done in sessions with clients. Any extra work, like submitting paperwork at home, responding to emails, checking in with supervisors after sessions, is not compensated. The only time you see coworkers is during staff meetings. Not having a lot of interaction and support from people doing the same work can lead to burnout. If you enjoy working with the autistic population, this is a good job for you. However, the company highlights their work with people with brain injuries. It makes it seem like most of the clients you get will have brain injuries. But the majority of my clients are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). I didn't expect that and did not get sufficient training to work with this population.
