Pros

The workload was reasonable, and the pay was good.

Cons

Disorganized - a recent restructuring has created many new teams. unfortunately, due to mismanagement, teams often have unclear objectives, no vision, difficult collaboration due to unclear responsibilities, and many many meetings where little is accomplished. codebase is also difficult to work with, because there are over 50 different login types for users. Disrespectful - the company's culture is...not the friendliest...new managers are hired with no input from employees, often with no experience in the subject matter the team is working on, and co-workers are often standoffish, probably due to burnout Scandalous - HR allows inappropriate behavior to slide. without consequences. while the person raising the issues seems to get ostracized and pushed out.

Pros

- Free swag! Soooo much decent quality free swag. It's the biggest pro of working at NR. - Few great people left... although most of them are on their way out - Well-maintained offices back before COVID - Great company if you enjoy kissing butt and having no autonomy - Used to be the best company I'd ever worked for pre-2020

Cons

- Super political. Even if you don't see it personally, it's happening at the top. Leaders and managers who are "friends" with each other have formed some kind of alliance, and will rip outsiders to shreds at their first chance. - No independence on work. I guess this depends on your manager, but not on my team, that's for sure. - GC is full of it. Huge ego, thinks he can magically solve all problems - Cannot easily take "unlimited PTO." Teams are so slim that you would be overridden with guilt if you take PTO, and would dread coming back to work since you'll be slammed with catching up. - No job flexibility. Apparently being through a pandemic still doesn't come with flexible WFH policies across the board. GC expects all legal team members to work in office post-pandemic. - Culture is best described as "dog eat dog." Blame culture is strong here. Everyone is out for themselves, even if it means pushing others down. Toxic people are found throughout the company, and they get harder and harder to avoid as wonderful people continue to leave. - D&I is a joke. The numbers might "look good," but there's intentionally there to look good. Layoffs take into consideration of race. - Pay is below industry average. Over at the biggest New Relic competitor, same roles are getting paid 20+% more than NR does. Bonuses are a joke here (basically nonexistent), and stocks are not impressive. - Benefits are average at best. - Lies and false promises from leadership. Don't drink the Kool-Aid!

Pros

* Decent pay. * Several smart people still working there.

Cons

* Poor product strategy that failed to address immediate market competition. * An "engineers must work harder (longer hours) to fix leadership's mistakes" attitude. * Culture and values have been almost completely abandoned. * Laying off hundreds of people annually. * Clearly on the road to acquisition. I worked at New Relic for 6 years and absolutely loved the first five years -- best job I ever had. Then I quit when I started to see early signs of these issues with bad responses from leadership. I'm so glad that I got out before they started laying off people in droves and treating the remaining employees like replaceable cogs.
