Pros

Some amazing dev luminaries, including Chris Pine and Ward Cunningham Great development teams Fast product releases cool products

Cons

some touch-me-not execs Less chance for advancement (often they can hire a Senior engineer from outside) a more distrustful culture since the IPO (more paperwork, more process) managers stuck in long meetings pandering to execs very little time for fun dev stuff: hack weeks are a thing of the past Two-tiered system with high flyers invited to offsite and conventions while others are left behind.

Pros

- The people are tremendous. It's important to work with people who you like, and impressive that the vast majority of employees meet that criteria. - The technology is solid - great to sell something that you can trust - Excellent growth and market recognition - With the fast growth there is ample opportunity for lateral and upward mobility - Strong ethics from the leadership team trickles down fairly well. - increasingly strong overall comp plan (RSUs, 401k match, lots of vacation, etc)

Cons

- It's intense and like running on a fast treadmil - lots of change (for the better) but change none the less. If you can't adapt, it's tougher to be successful - As the company gets larger, it's harder and harder to know everyone - Pay is OK but people get constant offers for more.

Thank you for your kind comments. I appreciate you hanging in there with all of our growth, and the changes that come with that growth. And, while you can't know everyone anymore (I don't either, I am sorry to say), I hope you continue to have great time with those with whom you do work! Steve McElfresh VP People

Pros

The general mood in the office is positive. There are some nice perks such as an on-site barista, happy hour every once in awhile, and Monster energy drinks.

Cons

Never once had I received a negative quarterly performance review or had any work issues brought to my attention during 1 on 1 meetings in over 3 years of working at New Relic. At my last performance review, I was ambushed by a "Performance Improvement Plan" stating that I was not meeting expectations. The items to complete or be terminated, individually were doable within 90 days. However I was given a list of 5 tasks to accomplish. It was clear the company was not interested in my success as an employee. Pushing out a long time employee under the guise of a Performance Improvement Plan is unfair. Unfortunately this approach is still being used by the company.
