Pros

They provide a good benefits package and access to professional development, tuition assistance, etc. The New York Public Library is also a great, stable, and widely recognized cultural institution. Its mission and goals are highly respectable, and one can take pride in working for such an employer.

Cons

It is a very large institution and therefore can get bogged down in excess bureaucracy. Efforts are being made to "decentralize," but it seems so far that central offices are being eliminated before local offices are ready to replace them. There is hope that things will improve as the library moves forward with its plans.
