      Pros

      Working at NYPL gives you a lot of valuable experience and upward mobility. From my experience people are willing to support you and help you if you need something.

      Cons

      Navigating working with the public can be frustrating at times. People have a way of testing your patience so you need to maintain professionalism and go through the proper channels if you need to report something, which can be lengthy depending on what is going on.

      Pros

      Getting to learn something new everyday, helping patrons who really need it, great learning opportunities, nice cowokers overall (depending on the branch), decent benefits.

      Cons

      Some patrons can behave in a scary manner, not being able to transfer to a different branch without applying for the position first like it is a brand new job, can be a cliquish environment rife with favoritism and nepotism (depending on the branch,borough, or network), not being able to move up except if one wants to become a manager - not too many opportunities for lateral movements.
