Pros

Free parking at office, good social club, great people. Standard processes, procedures and policies. Emphasis on corporate social and environmental responsibility.

Cons

High rate of staff turnover, resulting in poor knowledge sharing. Inadequate training programs to address employee skill development. Unrealistic expectation of workload and failure to replace employees that have left the company, instead choosing to redistribute workload among remaining team members. Thorough leadership pipeline, but failure to implement succession planning.

Pros

As one of the industry leaders in gold mining Newmont leads in environmental/health/safety issues. I enjoyed travelling around the world to the different sites. The science of gold mining is fascinating in and of itself, but the benefits of salary, generous 401k, stock, and pension all added to that 'shine'.

Cons

It is a good old boys club. It has always been about who you know. Additionally, the culture is short sighted - 'if you are not moving dirt, you're not adding value.'
